Axera Receives ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Automotive Cybersecurity Process Certification
On November 12, 2024, SGS, an internationally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization, awarded Axera Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (or “Axera”) the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Automotive Cybersecurity Process certification. This milestone shows that Axera has put in place a cybersecurity system that meets the rigorous ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standards. It is a clear sign of Axera’s strong grip on enterprise cybersecurity risk management and lays a solid foundation for ensuring product and corporate cybersecurity.
The certification ceremony was attended by representatives from both parties, including Alex Wu, Vice President of Axera’s Automotive BU responsible for software and system development, and Haisong Wang, Senior Director of Key Accounts at SGS Automotive Services.
Axera Receives ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Cybersecurity Process Certification from SGS
ISO/SAE 21434 is a globally recognized automotive industry cybersecurity standard that covers the complete product lifecycle, addressing aspects such as product conception, development, production, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning. It comprehensively specifies cybersecurity requirements for road vehicles, their components, and interfaces, detailing how to achieve cybersecurity management objectives based on cybersecurity threats. ISO/SAE 21434 is considered an industry consensus and serves as a crucial international reference standard for regulatory and certification bodies in road vehicle cybersecurity.
Axera has set up a cross-departmental cybersecurity team and built development processes that adhere to the cybersecurity standard. With guidance from specialists at SGS Automotive Cybersecurity Center, Axera has meticulously crafted nearly 200 cybersecurity process documents, which have been successfully integrated into the XMOTIVE M-series project and other automotive chip projects.
Alex Wu noted: “Securing the ISO/SAE 21434 automotive cybersecurity certification puts Axera among the few domestic automotive chip companies to achieve this milestone. Coming on the heels of our ISO 26262 functional safety process certification earlier this year, this latest certification highlights our steady progress in strengthening our security systems, building a more security-conscious workforce, and fostering a robust security-first culture. At Axera, we remain committed to making product safety our top priority, and we’ll continue to uphold the highest international security standards—both in cybersecurity and functional safety—to deliver products our partners can truly rely on.”
Wang commented: “We’re truly grateful for Axera’s ongoing trust and partnership with SGS. Throughout this project, the Axera team has impressed us not only with their technical expertise and hands-on capabilities but also with their genuine commitment to cybersecurity excellence. This certification is yet another solid proof of Axera’s unwavering dedication and capabilities to delivering secure, dependable products and services for their customers.”
Both parties expressed that they will continue to collaborate on future ISO/SAE 21434 and ISO 26262 product cybersecurity and functional safety development projects, undertaking more product certification initiatives.
